In conjunction with the 'Year of Artificial Intelligence 2026' in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a joint Bahraini-Saudi scientific study received praise from the scientific committee and reviewers for its scientific rigor and methodological precision, and for providing results that highlight the impact of integrating artificial intelligence technologies into media curricula and their role in preparing students to meet labor market requirements.

The study was prepared by researcher Dr. Maha Humaid Dakhil Al-Anzi from the Kingdom of Bahrain and researcher Dr. Muhammad Mufleh Al-Salem from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and was titled: 'The Impact of Including Artificial Intelligence in Media Curricula on Labor Market Requirements: A Field Study on Media Students in the Kingdom of Bahrain.'

The study was published in the forty-fifth issue of the 'Arab Journal of Media and Communication,' the peer-reviewed scientific journal issued by the Saudi Association for Media and Communication at King Saud University, in July 2026 AD, corresponding to Muharram 1448 AH.

The study examined a sample of Bahraini and Saudi media students studying in public and private universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain, aiming to measure the extent of the presence of artificial intelligence skills in media curricula, and to identify the level of students' readiness to work in a media environment undergoing rapid transformations in its tools, practices, and functions.

The study results showed a high level of inclusion of artificial intelligence skills in media curricula, particularly in text editing, data analysis, and content production, along with a high level of student awareness of the importance of these technologies and their readiness to employ them in media practice.

In contrast, the results revealed the need for further strengthening of the practical aspect, emphasizing that familiarity with artificial intelligence tools alone is not sufficient to achieve professional readiness unless coupled with practical training that enables students to employ these technologies in content creation, data analysis, media editing, and verifying the accuracy of automatically produced materials.

Innovation, data analysis, media editing, and speech-to-text skills emerged as the most influential skills in enhancing media students' readiness for the labor market, while the study showed that multimedia content production needs a broader presence in academic curricula and training programs.

The two researchers emphasized that the future of media will not be shaped by technology alone, but requires preparing media professionals who have the ability to employ artificial intelligence with awareness, competence, and responsibility, while adhering to the values of accuracy, credibility, privacy protection, and professional ethics.

The study recommended that universities in Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continuously update media curricula, include specialized courses in artificial intelligence applications, and expand practical training in data analysis, content production, image and video editing, and digital information verification.

It also called for strengthening partnerships between universities and media institutions, involving practitioners and specialists in curriculum development and identifying future skills, while providing professional training opportunities that simulate real media work environments.

The study stressed the importance of expanding academic and professional cooperation between Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and launching joint research programs that monitor the impact of artificial intelligence on media professions and anticipate the skills needed by journalists and content creators in the age of artificial intelligence.

The importance of the study stems from being the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain to examine the relationship between the inclusion of artificial intelligence technologies in media curricula and labor market requirements, contributing to preparing a new generation of media professionals who combine technical knowledge, professional skill, and ethical responsibility.
