Jeddah, 29 Muharram 1448 AH corresponding to July 14, 2026 AD (SPA) — The Holy Kaaba will witness the phenomenon of sun alignment tomorrow, when its rays align directly overhead at the moment of zenith, precisely at 12:26:44 PM Mecca Time. The head of the Jeddah Astronomical Society, Engineer Majid Abu Zahrah, stated that this phenomenon occurs twice a year when the sun reaches the latitude of Mecca at 90 degrees above the horizon. It is considered one of the most precise astronomical methods for verifying the Qibla direction in areas where the sun is visible above the horizon, as the direction of the sun directly indicates the direction of the Kaaba, while the shadow of any vertical object points opposite the Qibla. He added that the phenomenon is utilized by placing a vertical object on a flat surface before the alignment time, then observing the direction of the sun or shadow at the moment of alignment. Its importance is highlighted in remote areas far from Mecca, while in nearby cities like Jeddah, it is used to confirm the accuracy of the Qibla direction. Abu Zahrah emphasized that the sun alignment over the Kaaba is a natural astronomical phenomenon resulting from the coincidence of the sun's apparent position with the latitude of Mecca, representing one of the practical and precise applications of astronomical calculations in determining the Qibla direction. // End // 12:10 PM
