Sun Perpendicular to the Holy Kaaba Tomorrow
The Holy Kaaba will witness the phenomenon of the sun perpendicular tomorrow, with its rays falling directly on it at the moment of zenith, at exactly 12:26:44 PM Mecca time. The head of the Jeddah Astronomical Society, Engineer Majid Abu Zahira, stated that this phenomenon occurs twice a year when the sun reaches the latitude of Mecca at 90 degrees above the horizon, and it is considered one of the most accurate astronomical methods for verifying the direction of the qibla in areas where the sun is visible above the horizon. The direction of the sun becomes the direction of the Kaaba directly, while the shadow of any vertical object points in the opposite direction of the qibla. He added that the benefit of the phenomenon is achieved by placing a straight object on a flat surface before the time of perpendicularity, then observing the direction of the sun or the shadow at the moment of perpendicularity. He noted that its importance is highlighted in areas far from Mecca, while it is used in nearby cities such as Jeddah to verify the accuracy of the qibla direction. Abu Zahira confirmed that the sun's perpendicularity over the Kaaba is a natural astronomical phenomenon resulting from the alignment of the apparent position of the sun with the latitude of Mecca, and represents one of the precise practical applications of astronomical calculations in determining the direction of the qibla.
