Iranian Media Confirms Airstrikes in Central and Northern Iran on Thursday Morning
(CNN) -- Iranian state media reported Thursday that sites in central and northern Iran were bombed in recent hours.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), citing a crisis management official, said that Semnan Airport - located in the north of the country, just over 100 miles east of the capital Tehran - was targeted by 'airstrikes'.
The deputy governor of Markazi province said that two projectiles also targeted a site outside the city of Khondab in central Iran early Thursday morning, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
Explosions were heard in Khorramabad, a city in Lorestan province in central western Iran, according to IRNA.
CNN was unable to independently confirm these strikes or determine their source, and CNN has requested comment from US Central Command.
US strikes on Iran over the past week have largely focused on the southern coastal areas, but also targeted some areas deep inside the country.
