Iranian Media Reports Downing of US Drone Over "Hormuz"
The drone is of type "MQ-1".. while no immediate comment from the United States was issued.
Tehran/Anadolu
Iranian media reported that the Revolutionary Guard shot down a US drone of type "MQ-1".
Anadolu's correspondent quoted Iranian media on Monday as saying that the drone was shot down over the Strait of Hormuz.
The media did not provide any additional details on the matter, while no immediate comment was issued by the United States.
Earlier on Monday, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would reimpose a naval blockade on Iran, stressing that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to ships of all nations, except Iranian vessels or those belonging to entities dealing with Iran.
For days, the United States has been launching attacks on Iran under the pretext of responding to Tehran's targeting of commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran responds by bombing what it says are US military facilities in Arab countries, while some of those countries have announced that Iranian attacks resulted in civilian casualties and damaged civilian infrastructure.
Earlier on Monday, the spokesperson for the Iranian Armed Forces' Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Ibrahim Zolfaqari, said that his country 'has not and will not allow the United States to interfere in the Strait of Hormuz.'
He warned that the Iranian armed forces will take action against ships that attempt to cross the strait without its permission or without adhering to the route specified by Iran, adding that the operations carried out by the Iranian army and the Revolutionary Guard in recent days are clear evidence of that.
The night from Saturday to Sunday witnessed mutual strikes between Washington and Tehran, while the Revolutionary Guard announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation 'until further notice.'
The Strait of Hormuz region is witnessing security tensions against the backdrop of the war launched by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28, 2026.
Previously, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding in June 2026 that included a ceasefire, following Qatari and Pakistani mediation, paving the way for a final agreement to end the war, before Trump announced on July 8 of this month the end of the ceasefire due to renewed escalation.
