(CNN) -- The Kuwaiti Armed Forces announced they are intercepting 'hostile aerial targets' inside the country's airspace early Sunday.
The Kuwaiti Army General Staff said in a statement on platform 'X', formerly Twitter, that 'any sounds of explosions heard are the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile attacks,' calling on citizens and residents to adhere to security and safety instructions issued by the competent authorities.
The Kuwaiti army did not specify the source of these attacks or the entity from which they originated.
This announcement coincides with the UAE Ministry of Defense announcing on Sunday that the country's air defenses are dealing with 'missile attacks,' while sirens sounded in Bahrain, following US strikes targeting Iranian sites earlier Sunday.
In Qatar, the Ministry of Interior said that 'the security threat level is high, and everyone must commit to staying at home, not going out, and staying away from windows and open areas to preserve public safety.'
Meanwhile, the Bahraini Ministry of Interior announced the sounding of sirens in the country, and called on citizens and residents to remain calm, head to the nearest safe place, and follow the latest updates via official channels.
The United States launched new airstrikes against Iran on Sunday, indicating that this came in response to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard targeting a container ship flying the Cypriot flag while crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
This was preceded by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announcing the targeting of the ship, and saying it would close the Strait of Hormuz due to ships not adhering to designated routes.
