(CNN)-- Syrian transitional president Ahmad al-Sharaa issued several new appointments in the country's security institutions on Sunday, including a number of leadership positions.

According to the Syrian state news agency SANA, the appointments included the appointment of engineer Anas Khattab as director of the National Security Office, in addition to his duties as Minister of Interior in the current Syrian government.

The decisions also included the appointment of Hussein al-Salama as deputy director of the National Security Office, and the appointment of Mulham al-Shantout as deputy minister of interior for security affairs.

Al-Sharaa also chose Abdulqader Tahan as head of the Syrian General Intelligence Service, according to SANA.

Abdulqader Tahan is considered one of the security and military leaders who emerged during the years of the Syrian revolution. Al-Sharaa had appointed him as deputy minister of interior in February 2026.
