The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday morning that its forces targeted, on the eighth consecutive night of strikes on Iran, coastal surveillance facilities, Iranian air defenses, naval capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites, "as part of continuing to undermine Iranian military capabilities."

Iran's Tasnim news agency, citing a local official, reported on Sunday morning that the US military targeted a site near Shadegan in southwestern Iran. Meanwhile, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported on Saturday that several explosions were heard in the cities of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm in southern Iran.

Memorandum of Understanding at Risk

Iran's Mehr news agency said the US military launched attacks near the city of Sirik in Iran. Media also reported that the US military targeted an area near the city of Hajiabad.

CENTCOM noted that US forces also targeted "elements of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps" that it said were involved in attacks on US forces in Jordan, noting that more than 50,000 US troops are deployed across the Middle East.

The Central Command said in a statement on Saturday evening that Iranian strikes on a site in Jordan killed two US soldiers, with a third soldier still missing, in the first US military casualties from Iranian fire since March.

The Central Command statement said: "On July 17, two US service members in Jordan were killed as US Central Command and partner forces repelled Iranian attacks with ballistic missiles and drones," adding that "one service member remains missing."

Escalation and Mutual Bombing

It added that four other US service members were taken to hospitals in Jordan but later discharged, while others suffered minor injuries and returned to duty.

US President Donald Trump described the deaths of the two US soldiers as "very sad," adding in remarks to NewsNation: "We hate to see that happen, they were doing their duty serving our country."

Trump reiterated that the primary goal of the war is "to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon at any cost," and in response to a question about Iran's announcement that it is no longer committed to the "Memorandum of Understanding" with the United States, Trump said: "I don't care at all."

Meanwhile, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth commented on the news in a post on X, saying: "Your sacrifice only strengthens our resolve."

The Central Command said in a statement on Saturday evening that the eighth round of strikes on Iran aims to "swiftly punish the Revolutionary Guards" for killing the US service members.

The US State Department issued a worldwide travel advisory for US citizens abroad on Saturday, citing rising tensions in the Middle East "with potential for unexpected escalation." The advisory stated that flight cancellations and periodic airspace closures could disrupt travel.
