Young Palestinian footballer Fadi Hamdallah al-Na'asan, a player for Al-Mughayyir Club and the Palestinian youth national team, died at the age of 17 from gunshot wounds a week after being shot during an attack by Israeli settlers on the village of Al-Mughayyir in the occupied West Bank, according to officials and family members.

Al-Na'asan's body was mourned on Saturday from the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah to his hometown of Al-Mughayyir, where dozens of mourners, some dressed in black, participated in his funeral procession before his burial.

The Palestinian Football Association accused Israeli forces of shooting the player during the attack on Al-Mughayyir village on July 11, and said in a statement on social media: 'This dawn, Al-Mughayyir Club and youth national team player Fadi Hamdallah al-Na'asan (17 years old) was martyred, succumbing to his injury from bullets fired by occupation forces in the village of Al-Mughayyir northeast of Ramallah.'

Al-Na'asan had been injured about a week ago by an explosive bullet in the thigh, and underwent an amputation of his foot in an attempt to save his life, but he died from his injury, thus ending his football career before it could be completed.

With the death of Fadi al-Na'asan, the Palestinian Football Association announced that the number of martyrs of the Palestinian sports movement since October 7, 2023 has risen to 1,013, including 568 from the Palestinian football family.
