Egypt's Ministry of Transport took urgent action after a video clip circulated documenting a group of boys throwing stones at a railway train while it was moving in Aswan Governorate, stressing that "such actions pose a direct threat to the lives of passengers and workers, as well as damaging public property."

Meanwhile, as soon as the circulating video was detected, Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir issued directives to take all urgent legal measures, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and the Transport and Communications Police, to identify the perpetrators, arrest them, and refer them to expedited trial.

The ministry also expressed, in a press statement, its strong condemnation of the incident, explaining that throwing stones at trains not only damages windows and the structure of carriages, but can cause serious injuries to passengers and train drivers, and may even lead to loss of life, in addition to disrupting train movement and causing losses to facilities that the state has invested billions of pounds in developing.

The ministry stressed that it will not tolerate any acts of sabotage targeting the railway system or endangering the safety and security of citizens, affirming continued deterrent measures against anyone proven to be involved in such incidents.

Furthermore, the Egyptian Ministry of Transport did not fail to thank what it described as "positive citizenship" that documented the incident "for the sake of the public interest," calling on citizens and civil society institutions in all governorates, especially in villages and towns adjacent to railway lines, to raise awareness of the dangers of this serious negative phenomenon, and to actively participate in assuming societal responsibility by confronting these vandals and immediately reporting any violations, to preserve the lives of passengers and public property that belongs to the people.

A video clip of the incident had spread, documented by a female citizen on the social networking site Facebook, showing a group of boys throwing stones at a train while it was moving in Aswan Governorate in far southern Egypt.
