The Israeli Broadcasting Authority revealed on Friday that Israel has identified two scenarios that could lead it to attack Iran: the first if Iran targets Israel, and the second upon a formal U.S. request.

The authority said that Israel is following the ongoing escalation between the United States and Iran, amid assessments that Tehran does not currently want to attack Israel and drag the Israeli army into the round of confrontation with U.S. forces.

It added that these assessments come despite the United States expanding its attacks on Iran and informing Israel of its intention to broaden the scope of targets to include infrastructure and energy facilities, in addition to military sites that were attacked in recent days.

It quoted an unnamed Israeli source as saying that these assessments do not guarantee that Israel will not be attacked by Iran, and that the Israeli army is preparing for various possible scenarios.

The authority stated that Israeli assessments point to two scenarios that could lead to Israel's return to direct participation in the confrontation: first, Iran launching an attack on targets inside Israel, and second, receiving a formal U.S. request to join military operations against Iran.

It added that, at the current stage, Israel does not see that either scenario has materialized, as the confrontation remains mainly confined between the United States and Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously warned Iran against attacking Israel, threatening that the response would be 'stronger than before,' and affirming Israel's readiness for various scenarios.

The authority said that the Israeli security establishment is monitoring the developments of the confrontation amid Iranian threats to expand its attacks if the United States continues to escalate its military operations, considering that this raises the possibility of the confrontation moving to a broader stage that could change Israeli calculations.

Israel has previously incited the United States to resume its attacks on Iran, while Israeli officials spoke about the army preparing a list of targets it intends to attack if conditions permit the return of conflict between the two sides.

Tel Aviv and Washington accuse Tehran of seeking to produce nuclear weapons, while Iran says its program is for peaceful purposes and accuses the United States and Israel of using it as a pretext for military intervention, vowing to respond to any attack.

On June 13, 2025, Israel launched a 12-day attack on Iran, before the United States later joined in targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.

Since February 28, 2026, the region has seen an escalation in the direct confrontation between Israel and Iran, after Israel and the United States launched airstrikes on targets inside Iran that, according to announced reports, resulted in the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a number of senior military and political officials.

Iran responded by launching ballistic missiles and drones toward Israel and U.S. targets in Gulf states, leading to a regional expansion of the confrontation, before a fragile ceasefire was declared in April, followed by renewed tensions in June and July of this year, as international diplomatic efforts continue to contain the escalation amid warnings of the region sliding into a broader war.
