The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced early Wednesday a new round of military strikes against Iranian targets, as part of ongoing operations by the United States to weaken Iranian military capabilities related to attacks on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The command explained in a statement that the strikes targeted dozens of military sites located near the Strait of Hormuz and along the Iranian coastal areas, using fighters, drones, and warships that launched precision-guided munitions at sites designated for missiles and drones.

These operations come after the US Army announced Tuesday evening that it would continue its strikes against Iran for the fourth consecutive day, stressing that the goal is to reduce Iranian capabilities used to target commercial ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime passages for energy transport and global trade.

CENTCOM also noted that the strikes coincide with the US forces' preparations to reactivate the naval blockade on Iranian ports and coastal areas, a step reflecting further escalation in military operations in the region.

In the same context, US media quoted a US official, who preferred not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the operation, as saying that the main goal of the strikes is to eliminate emerging threats targeting international navigation and prevent Iran from using its military capabilities to threaten ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
