The Egyptian army announced on Sunday that Defense Minister Ashraf Salem Zahir left for Turkey at the head of a military delegation to hold talks on supporting prospects for military cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries in various fields.

This was stated in an army statement, without specifying the duration of the visit amid rising Egyptian-Turkish cooperation on various levels.

The statement said that Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zahir traveled "to the Republic of Turkey at the head of a high-level military delegation on an official visit at the invitation of Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler."

During the visit, the Egyptian minister is scheduled to meet with his Turkish counterpart and a number of military officials for talks to support prospects for military cooperation between the armed forces of both countries in various fields, according to the army statement.

And early this July, Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Salih Mutlu Şen said in a press conference that "security cooperation and military relations between Turkey and Egypt are going very well."

He stressed that "the Egyptian army will remain an important guarantee of stability in the Middle East region," according to a statement by the Turkish embassy.
