(CNN)-- President Donald Trump told NewsNation on Saturday that the killing of two US soldiers in Jordan was "very sad."

Trump told NewsNation: "We are sorry about what is happening. It is in the service of our country."

The US President spent Saturday at his home in Bedminster, New Jersey, and has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the latest American losses.

The US Army announced on Saturday the death of two of its soldiers and the loss of a third, recording the first casualties among US forces in the war with Iran since March.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a social media post: "On July 17, two US soldiers were killed in Jordan while US Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces were repelling Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. A third soldier is missing."

CENTCOM reported that four other US soldiers were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan for treatment and later discharged. Others suffered minor injuries and returned to duty.

The United States conducted a seventh night of strikes (from Friday night into Saturday), targeting coastal areas near the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as internal transportation infrastructure, according to Iranian state media.

The attacks damaged a desalination plant in southern Iran, cutting off water to 20 villages, according to the deputy governor of Hormozgan province. Meanwhile, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia activated warning systems or repelled Iranian attacks, and Kuwait said another power and water desalination plant was shelled.
