The Iranian Army announced the downing of a US drone in the city of Bandar Abbas, overlooking the Arabian Gulf.

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency quoted a statement issued by the Iranian Army, saying that a US drone in Bandar Abbas was detected by an Iranian Air Force surface-to-air missile system, and was targeted, shot down, and destroyed.

As of Monday afternoon, no official comment or statement had been issued from the US side regarding the incident.

Yesterday, Sunday, the United States announced launching a new wave of attacks on Iran, in response to the latter's targeting of commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

In response to these attacks, Iran announced targeting positions of US forces in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan with missiles.

The Strait of Hormuz region is witnessing security tensions against the backdrop of the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, 2026.

Washington and Tehran had signed, in June last year, a memorandum of understanding that included a ceasefire, following Qatari and Pakistani mediation, paving the way for a final agreement to end the war, before US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 of this month the end of the ceasefire following renewed escalation.
