(CNN)-- The spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the highest joint military authority in Iran, said on Monday that the risk of a regional war has increased following the latest US strikes on Iran.

Iran's state broadcaster reported the remarks of the spokesman, Ebrahim Zolfaqari, who condemned "the repeated provocations and destabilizing actions of the United States," saying that "the cooperation of some regional countries has increased the risk of the war spreading across the region."

Zolfaqari affirmed that the Iranian army "will respond firmly to any obstruction or threat to the passage of commercial ships and oil tankers" by the United States, adding that Iran's Revolutionary Guard had clearly demonstrated that in recent days.

He also warned the leaders of regional countries that "any cooperation with the United States or logistical support for its military will be considered an act of war against Iran's sovereignty and national security."

He added: "If the scope of the conflict expands, the flames of war will engulf the entire region."

This comes after US President Donald Trump's statement that the United States will deliver "powerful strikes" on Iran, indicating that Washington will "protect the Strait of Hormuz and will charge a fee for doing so."

In a phone interview with Fox News, he stated: "We hit them hard last night. Every time they send a drone, we hit them hard. We had a deal, what no one knows is that we had a deal. It was a completed deal, and then they violated it."

He continued: "They always break agreements. We have made ten agreements with them, so we will hit them hard."

He went on to say that the United States will become a "protecting force" for the Strait of Hormuz, stating: "Now we will protect it, and we will charge a fee for its protection."

His remarks came after the US military intensified the number of strikes it is carrying out on Iran over the weekend.
