(CNN)--Iranian state media reported Tuesday that five explosions were heard in the western part of Bandar Abbas, a major coastal city on Iran's southern coast.

The city had been attacked before, the most recent on Monday, when Iran's semi-official Fars news agency quoted the government of Hormozgan province as saying a projectile hit the western part of Bandar Abbas.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Tuesday the end of the wave of strikes it launched on Monday against Iran, confirming that the operation lasted five hours and targeted military sites in Bushehr, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa, and Bandar Abbas, using precision-guided munitions against defense systems, missile and drone sites, and naval capabilities, aimed at undermining Iran's ability to threaten commercial navigation.

It added that more than 50,000 US troops are currently deployed across the Middle East, and that US forces will remain vigilant and at a high level of combat readiness.
