Iran's official news agency IRNA reported that the maritime observation tower located in Shahid Kalantari Port in the Iranian city of Chabahar was targeted in an attack carried out by the United States on Friday morning.

The agency stated that the attack completely destroyed the tower, with no casualties or injuries recorded, according to preliminary data.

It noted that technical and operational teams were dispatched to the site following the attack, where damage assessment and necessary security measures began, along with preparations to resume port activities.

The agency quoted relevant authorities as saying that cargo loading and unloading operations at Shahid Kalantari Port are expected to resume shortly, after completing technical inspections and ensuring appropriate security conditions.

On June 18, 2026, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that included a ceasefire, and began negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Qatar to end the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28 of the same year.

However, US President Donald Trump announced on July 8, 2026, the end of the ceasefire amid renewed escalation, after Iran attacked three ships a day earlier while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz, claiming they did not adhere to the navigation route it had set, prompting Washington to launch attacks on sites inside Iran.

Washington supports the passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz on a route different from that set by Iran, which Tehran rejects, asserting that it will target any vessel that does not coordinate with it before crossing the strategic strait for global energy supplies.
