(CNN)-- The unified command of the Iranian armed forces (Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters) warned on Wednesday that any US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities or other sensitive sites would be considered 'expanding the war in the region,' according to a statement carried by Iran's official state broadcasting authority.

US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that the United States would 'strike the Mountain Axe site very soon.'

This fortified underground complex is located about one mile south of the city of Natanz in central Iran, and was declared to the United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency in 2020 as a future facility for assembling centrifuges used in nuclear fuel production.

The statement by 'Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters' said that 'the criminal United States has threatened to attack Iranian nuclear facilities and other sensitive sites.'

It affirmed that if 'the US military takes such a step, we will consider it an expansion of the war in the region.'

The statement warned that 'in such a scenario, all American interests, as well as the interests of its allies and supporters, will become targets for strong attacks carried out by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.'
