(CNN)-- US President Donald Trump on Tuesday compared the number of US soldiers killed during the war on Iran to military losses in previous conflicts, suggesting that the cost of his unpopular war—in terms of time and American lives—is small compared to those other conflicts.

In a post on his platform 'Truth Social,' coinciding with his Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s testimony before Congress, and a day before attending a ceremony for the transfer of soldiers' remains, he listed 6 US military operations, their durations, and the number of fatalities in each.

Trump specifically mentioned the war on Venezuela, referring to the brief operation aimed at capturing then-President Nicolás Maduro, but he did not use the term 'war' to describe the war on Iran, instead calling it the 'Iranian military conflict.'

Trump wrote: 'Afghanistan war: 20 years, 2,000 dead; Iraq war: 9 years, 4,600 dead; Vietnam war: 19 years and 5 months, 58,220 dead; Korean war: 3 years and 1 month, 36,574 dead; Venezuela war: 1 day, no dead; Iranian military conflict: 4 months, 18 dead.'

The US president did not provide sources for these figures, but they largely align with data from the Department of Defense (Pentagon), though the casualty analysis system does not classify Venezuela as a war.

Trump’s post came as Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine appeared before the Senate Appropriations Committee, seeking additional funding for the war on Iran.
