Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced on Saturday that a fire broke out in parts of a power and water desalination plant after it was subjected to an Iranian attack.

The ministry said in a statement: 'In light of the sinful Iranian aggression on the State of Kuwait, another power and water desalination plant was subjected to a hostile attack that resulted in a fire breaking out in one of the plant's components.'

It added that 'this necessitated taking precautionary operational measures, which included disconnecting a number of generation units, to ensure the safety of the plant and its workers, and to guarantee the stability of the electrical system.'

The ministry added that its emergency teams are currently dealing with the fire, in coordination with the General Fire Force and relevant authorities.

It confirmed that 'all operational and emergency plans were activated immediately after the incident, ensuring the continuity and stability of the electrical and water systems, and minimizing any potential impact on service, with technical and operational follow-up continuing around the clock.'

The ministry called on 'citizens and residents to cooperate during this exceptional phase by rationalizing electricity consumption, which contributes to reducing loads on the electrical grid and supports the efforts of technical teams in completing repair work and restoring operational readiness as quickly as possible.'

On Friday, Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity announced that one of its power and water desalination plants was subjected to an Iranian attack, resulting in a fire and damage to a large number of power generation units, calling for rationalizing electricity consumption.

At dawn on Saturday, the Kuwaiti army said in three statements published on its account on the American company X platform that air defenses 'repelled attacks by hostile missiles and drones, following the Iranian aggression.'

It added that 'the sounds of explosions that may be heard are the result of air defense systems intercepting the attacks,' calling on everyone to adhere to the security and safety instructions issued by the competent authorities.

Kuwait, along with other Arab countries, has been subjected to Iranian attacks in recent days, while Tehran claimed to have targeted American military bases and sites in Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman, in response to US strikes against it.

The escalation comes after the collapse of a temporary memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran on June 18, to stop the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial navigation.

On July 8, US President Donald Trump announced that the agreement 'ended,' accusing Iran of not adhering to it, while Tehran held Washington responsible for plunging it into a crisis and violating its terms.
