Lebanese security agencies announced Monday the arrest of a Syrian they said was a leader in the ISIS organization in Syria, on June 30, 2026.

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces in Lebanon said in a statement that the arrest was part of proactive security operations to pursue elements of terrorist organizations.

The Directorate added that the "Information Division arrested the suspect, identified as (H.R.), born in 1994 and holding Syrian citizenship, on June 30, 2026, after precise monitoring and tracking operations."

It clarified that investigations showed the detainee currently holds the position of General Security Prince for the so-called 'Southern Province' and 'Central Province,' affiliated with the ISIS organization in Syria.

According to the statement, the detainee progressed through a number of leadership positions within the organization before taking responsibility for managing security activities and operations in the 'Southern Province' and 'Central Province,' in coordination with officials and princes in other provinces of the organization within Syria.

The statement indicated that legal measures were taken against the detainee, upon reference from the competent judiciary, without providing further details about the place and circumstances of the arrest.
