Syria's Interior Ministry announced on Monday that investigations proved the three detained cell members, responsible for the recent bombings in Damascus, belong to the terrorist organization "ISIS".

The ministry said in a statement that the results of investigations, supported by confessions of the detainees and analysis of surveillance camera recordings, confirmed the cell members' affiliation with "ISIS".

It revealed that the detainees are Diaa Shaker al-Qasim, Abdullah Younis al-Jabouri, and Mohammad Asaad Mohammad, indicating their involvement in planning acts aimed at undermining security and stability and spreading chaos among citizens.

The announcement comes as a follow-up to a statement issued by authorities on Saturday, in which they said the cell members confessed to targeting public institutions, including the Armament Directorate building of the Ministry of Defense in Damascus last May.

On Thursday, Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab announced the arrest of the cell members, two days after an attack with two explosive devices near the Ministry of Tourism building in the capital on Tuesday, July 7.

The attack resulted in the death of one person and injuries to 36 others, including four police officers.

The attack coincided with a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Damascus, and was followed by the Interior Minister's directive to intensify field security measures in various provinces.

The ministry affirmed that investigations with the cell members are ongoing to uncover all those involved and their collaborators.

It stressed that it "will deal firmly with anyone proven to be involved in any terrorist act, whether planning, supporting, or executing, and there will be no leniency or impunity."

Syrian authorities continue their efforts to enhance security and pursue extremist cells since the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024.
