Yemen's Giants Brigades announced Tuesday the seizure of a boat in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait carrying specialized materials and equipment used in weapons manufacturing that were en route to the Houthis in Hodeidah province.

According to a statement issued Tuesday evening, the naval patrols of the Giants Brigades stationed in the Bab el-Mandeb sector intercepted the boat after an intelligence monitoring and tracking operation, and arrested its crew, which it said belongs to smuggling networks linked to the Houthis.

It explained that the relevant authorities began examining and securing the shipment's contents, in preparation for announcing details of the seized materials and equipment after completing investigations and legal procedures, amid speculation that the shipment includes components used in military manufacturing.

The announcement of the seizure comes amid increasing warnings about ongoing attempts to smuggle dual-use materials and components used in manufacturing drones, missiles, and attack boats through complex maritime routes, taking advantage of the vast Yemeni coastline and multiple smuggling outlets.

The Giants Brigades confirmed that the operation is part of a series of ongoing security measures to secure the coasts, combat smuggling, and cut off maritime supply lines that the forces say represent one of the most prominent sources of Houthi support from Iran.

Observers believe that the continued seizure of similar shipments reflects escalating intelligence and naval efforts to tighten the noose on smuggling networks, stressing that the battle to secure maritime corridors is not limited to protecting international navigation but extends to preventing materials that could enhance Houthi military capabilities from reaching them, amid ongoing security tensions in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb.
