The source said that Gofman presented intelligence details about Iran's Mount Axe facility and uranium and economy programs.
It is noteworthy that 'Mount Axe' is a highly fortified facility located deep underground in central Iran, about one mile south of the Natanz uranium enrichment facility - which was previously bombed by the United States and Israel - making the site a difficult target for the US and Israel, as well as for any potential ground operation.
CNN has reached out to the White House and the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for comment.
Gofman was appointed as Mossad director earlier this year, after serving as Netanyahu's military secretary.
Gofman's appointment represents a continuation of the Israeli approach to the Iranian nuclear file. The meeting with US officials appears to be in the context of coordinating positions between the two allies. The fortified Mount Axe site raises questions about available deterrence options.
