The US Army announced yesterday, Saturday, that two soldiers were killed in the confrontation with Iran, during an Iranian bombardment of a US military base in Jordan, raising the total number of US soldiers killed since the start of the war on February 28 to 16.

In a brief phone call with NewsNation, US President Donald Trump said the soldiers killed in the war "died in service to our country" and reiterated that the main goal of the war is "to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon."

Shortly after the war began on February 28, a strike by an Iranian drone on a port in Kuwait killed 6 US soldiers.

A seventh soldier died more than a week after being wounded during an attack by Iran on March 1 on an air base in Saudi Arabia.

Later in March, 6 service members were killed when a KC-135 tanker aircraft supporting US military operations against Iran in Iraq crashed.
