The State of Qatar today (Thursday) strongly condemned the Houthi militia's targeting of a Saudi ship while sailing in the Red Sea.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the attack is 'a serious violation of the safety of international navigation, a direct threat to the security of global energy supplies, and a clear and explicit violation of the rules of international law,' explaining that 'the continuation of these unacceptable attacks represents a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region and efforts to consolidate regional security and stability.'
The ministry called on the international community to assume its responsibilities regarding the implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216 on Yemen and Resolution 2722 on the rights and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, stressing that 'freedom of navigation in international waterways is a fundamental principle of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982.'
The ministry reiterated 'the State of Qatar's full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures it takes to preserve its sovereignty, security and interests,' affirming that the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an integral part of the security of the State of Qatar and the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
On the other hand, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today that Houthi attacks on Saudi oil tankers are irresponsible and constitute a dangerous escalation.
A ministry spokesman called on the Houthis to immediately stop the attacks, stressing: 'These attacks represent an irresponsible and dangerous escalation.'
An official source at the Saudi Transport General Authority announced that the ship ENCELIA, belonging to one of the Saudi companies, was targeted while sailing in the Red Sea, resulting in a fire breaking out in the front of the ship.
