(CNN)— Egypt's Interior Ministry announced Thursday that it arrested a content creator who published video clips promoting what she called the "benefits of polygamy and illegitimate childbirth," in violation of public morals and societal values.

Egypt's Interior Ministry said in a post on its official account on platform X, formerly Twitter: "The General Administration for the Protection of Morals at the specialized police sector detected a content creator publishing videos on her social media pages that included her promoting what she called the benefits of polygamy and illegitimate childbirth in an inciting manner, contradicting public morals and societal values."

Egypt's Interior Ministry added: "After legalizing procedures, the aforementioned (resident in the jurisdiction of the Matariya Police Station in Cairo) was arrested, and a mobile phone was seized that upon inspection revealed evidence confirming her criminal activity. When confronted, she confessed to committing the incident as described and publishing the videos on her social media pages to increase viewership and achieve financial profits. Legal measures were taken."
