Three people were killed and five others wounded on Monday in drone attacks targeting the Moscow region, as Ukraine intensifies its strikes inside Russian territory, particularly against energy and infrastructure facilities.

Dead in Moscow

Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov said three people were killed and three others were wounded in the town of Pionersky in the Istra district after a drone fell, while two additional people were wounded at another location in the region.

Vorobyov added that Russian air defenses shot down 81 drones over the Moscow region, in one of the largest waves of attacks targeting the outskirts of the Russian capital in recent times, according to Agence France-Presse.

Targeting the Russian interior

These strikes are part of an escalating Ukrainian campaign targeting the Russian interior, as Kyiv says its attacks come in response to the Russian strikes that have been ongoing for more than four years against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

In southern Russia, drones targeted the Stavropol region, sparking a fire in an industrial area in the city of Vyazniki in the Shpakovsky district.

Regional governor Vladimir Vladimirov said emergency and fire crews moved to the site, with no casualties reported so far, warning that the drone threat remains in areas of the region.

He added that authorities called on residents to exercise caution and follow official instructions, as the security alert continues.
