(CNN) -- The Saudi Interior Ministry announced on Saturday the implementation of the death penalty (ta'zeer) against an Egyptian national, according to a ministry statement published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Saudi Interior Ministry said in its statement: "Abdulrahim Ibrahim Abdulrahim Saleh Darwish, an Egyptian, engaged in smuggling amphetamine pills into the Kingdom."

The Saudi Interior Ministry added: "By the grace of God, security authorities managed to arrest the said offender, and the investigation led to charges against him for committing the crime. Upon referral to the competent court, a ruling was issued proving the charges against him and sentencing him to death (ta'zeer). The verdict became final after being appealed and then upheld by the Supreme Court, and a royal order was issued to execute the legally decided punishment," according to the statement.

The Saudi Interior Ministry affirmed: "The death penalty (ta'zeer) was carried out against the offender Abdulrahim Ibrahim Abdulrahim Saleh Darwish, an Egyptian, on Saturday, 4 Safar 1448 AH, corresponding to July 18, 2026, in Tabuk region."
