The Internal Security Commander in the Syrian Aleppo Governorate, Colonel Muhammad Abd al-Ghani, announced on Sunday the arrest of Brigadier General Pilot Abd al-Razzaq Ibrahim al-Murr, wanted on charges of involvement in carrying out airstrikes targeting civilians during the rule of the ousted regime.

The official Syrian news agency SANA quoted Abd al-Ghani as saying that security forces arrested 'Brigadier General Pilot Abd al-Razzaq Ibrahim al-Murr, one of those involved in targeting our people with airstrikes over the years.'

The security official did not provide details about the location or circumstances of the operation that led to the arrest of the wanted officer.

The new Syrian administration is working to stabilize the security situation and pursue former regime elements accused of committing crimes against civilians during the years of the revolution between 2011 and 2024.

On December 8, 2024, Syrian revolution factions managed to enter the capital Damascus, announcing the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime (2000–2024), who inherited power from his father Hafez al-Assad (1971–2000).

Syrians see the fall of the regime as the end of a long era of repression, marred by grave violations against civilians during the 14 years of the revolution.
