The chief prosecutor in the Turkish capital Ankara issued an arrest warrant for 36 people, including Huseyin Can Guner, the governor of the Cankaya district in Ankara, who is a member of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).

According to Bloomberg News, the suspects are being investigated on allegations of "forming and joining a criminal organization", "bribery", and "bid-rigging".

Bloomberg reported that 27 people have been arrested so far.

The Turkish judiciary has been increasing pressure on the CHP for more than a year, with hundreds of its members and several of its mayors being detained.

Among the most prominent CHP figures detained so far is former Istanbul mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, who is considered one of President Erdogan's main political rivals.

Imamoglu's trial on corruption charges began in March this year, a year after his detention.
