In a related context, the US Central Command announced on Thursday evening that US forces had begun a new wave of strikes against Iran for the fifth consecutive night, aiming to further undermine Iranian military capabilities.

On the other hand, the White House affirmed that US President Donald Trump remains open to diplomacy with Iran, despite the renewed hostilities between the two sides.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said during a press conference that Trump holds the Iranians accountable when they break commitments made to the United States, but at the same time he always remains open to diplomacy.
