The vicinity of Sanaa International Airport witnessed rapid field developments on Monday after the Yemeni Armed Forces announced carrying out an operation targeting the airport runway to prevent an Iranian plane from landing, while the Yemeni Ministry of Defense issued urgent warnings for citizens, workers, and humanitarian organizations to evacuate the airport and its surroundings, coinciding with the sound of explosions in the area.

Reuters news agency quoted eyewitnesses as hearing sounds of shelling and explosions near Sanaa International Airport, with no independent information yet available regarding the extent of damage or casualties.

In an official statement, the Yemeni Armed Forces explained that they targeted the runway of Sanaa International Airport with the aim of preventing an Iranian plane from landing, stressing that the operation came against the backdrop of what it described as 'Iran's insistence on violating Yemeni territory'.

The statement added that 'the terrorist Houthi militias backed by the Iranian regime prevented Yemeni national aviation from landing at the capital Sanaa airport, and insisted that the Iranian violate Yemeni territory, and therefore the airport runway was targeted.'

The Yemeni Armed Forces affirmed that the use of Sanaa airport under these circumstances constitutes a violation of Yemeni sovereignty, indicating that it will take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such attempts in the future.

Concurrently with the operation, the Yemeni Ministry of Defense, in a statement, called on citizens to stay away from Sanaa International Airport and not to approach its vicinity for their safety, stressing that the safety of civilians and humanitarian workers is a top priority.

The ministry explained that these measures come within the framework of precautionary steps to deal with potential security developments, calling on all workers and humanitarian organizations operating in the area to evacuate the airport and its surroundings, and warning against remaining near the site during the current period.

The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the armed forces will deal with any entity or aircraft attempting to violate Yemeni airspace or violating the procedures and instructions issued by the competent authorities.

It added that the armed forces are on full alert to deal with any field developments and take appropriate measures according to applicable laws and regulations, ensuring the protection of national sovereignty and maintaining the country's security and stability.

This development comes hours after the Yemeni Armed Forces announced that the government had exhausted all political means to convince Iran and the Houthi group not to use Yemeni airspace amid the military escalation the region is witnessing.

The Yemeni Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Taher al-Aqili, had earlier affirmed, in a statement on behalf of the armed forces, that the government tried by all means to convince Iran and the Houthi group not to violate Yemeni airspace, but those efforts did not succeed, stressing that 'patience has run out,' and that the armed forces will respond to any violation of Yemeni sovereignty by all available means.
