141 people were arrested on Wednesday in Paris and its suburbs on the sidelines of celebrations related to the match between France and Spain in the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup, according to an initial tally from the Paris police headquarters.

The directorate explained that these arrests are mainly related to "the use of fireworks projectiles directed against security forces and emergency services."

According to the same source, no serious injuries were recorded.

The French team was eliminated from the semi-finals of the global football festival after losing 0-2 to Spain.

Last year, on the same date, 175 people were arrested. During the night of July 13 to 14, "98 people were arrested, compared to 176" last year.

About 7,000 police and gendarmerie officers were deployed in Paris and its suburbs on July 13 and 14.
