Abu Al-Shamat Survives Cruciate Ligament Scare.. Details of Injury to Saudi Al-Ahli Star
A state of anxiety prevailed inside the Saudi Al-Ahli camp in Portugal after the sudden collapse of one of the team's most prominent names during a friendly match, with everyone awaiting the results of tests amid fears of the worst-case scenario.
Saudi newspaper "Al-Youm" revealed that the technical staff received a major morale boost after the medical tests undergone by Saleh Abu Al-Shamat confirmed the safety of the cruciate ligament, following the injury he suffered against Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães.
The newspaper explained that the MRI scan showed the player only suffered a bone bruise, without any damage to the cruciate ligament, after undergoing precautionary tests under the supervision of the team's medical staff.
Abu Al-Shamat had been injured during the friendly match between Al-Ahli and Vitória Guimarães on Friday as part of the pre-season camp for the new season, which ended with Al-Ahli losing 3-1.
This defeat became the second suffered by Al-Ahli in their friendly matches during their external camp before the start of the new season, after losing 1-4 to German side Holstein Kiel in Austria.
In contrast, "Al-Raqi" only achieved a single victory against Austrian side Salvelden with a clean 8-0 score in their first friendly match in Austria, while they drew 2-2 with Portuguese side Rio Ave in Portugal.
