After Joining Chelsea, Rogers Provokes Arsenal Fans
English star Morgan Rogers started an early war with Arsenal fans after officially joining Chelsea from Aston Villa on Tuesday evening.
Chelsea announced on its official website that the 23-year-old Rogers signed a contract keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2033, and he will join coach Xabi Alonso's squad ahead of the new season.
Multiple English media outlets reported that the deal for Rogers cost Chelsea £117 million (€138 million), making it the second most expensive transfer in Premier League history, after Alexander Isak's move from Newcastle to Liverpool last summer for £125 million.
Arsenal was the most prominent club interested in Rogers' services and attempted to sign him during the current summer transfer window, before Chelsea intervened and secured the deal.
In his first comments after joining the Blues, Rogers told Chelsea's official website: 'I'm very excited. For me, Chelsea is the biggest club in London. I've always admired it since I was a child.'
There are frequent disputes between fans of Arsenal and Chelsea over which is the bigger club in London, so some have considered that Rogers' statement may provoke many Arsenal fans.
Rogers added: 'I'm very excited about the project with the new coach, the players we have, and the direction the club is heading. That's why I'm here, and I can't wait to get started.'
It is worth noting that Rogers was part of the English national team that finished third in the 2026 World Cup, which ended last Sunday with Spain winning the title.
