Chelsea announced on Tuesday the signing of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa on a long-term contract until 2033, for a British record transfer fee of €137.3 million.
The London club said in a statement: "Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa."
According to English media, the deal is worth €137.3 million.
It added that the 23-year-old forward has signed a contract with the club until 2033 and will join the squad of manager Xabi Alonso ahead of the 2026-2027 season.
Rogers was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal, but Chelsea managed to hijack the deal and bring the player to Stamford Bridge, hours after he arrived in London following his participation with the England national team at the 2026 World Cup.
Rogers became the most expensive deal for an English player in history, surpassing the transfer record set earlier in this transfer window after Elliott Anderson's move to Manchester City for €136 million.
He also became the most expensive signing in Chelsea's history, surpassing the €126 million spent on Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández in 2023 from Benfica.
Rogers, a former Manchester City youth academy player, joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for a fee of €9.4 million.
Due to a clause giving Middlesbrough 20% of any profit Villa makes from a future sale of Rogers, the Championship club will earn at least €24 million from his transfer to Chelsea, depending on the number of add-ons triggered at Villa Park.
Rogers scored 21 goals in 85 league appearances for Unai Emery's side and contributed significantly to the team that won the Europa League last season.
He has made 22 appearances for the England senior team, scoring one goal, and was part of the Three Lions squad that finished third at the 2026 World Cup, where he played in seven matches.
Rogers is the second player to leave Villa this week after Youri Tielemans' move to Manchester United for €41 million, but they have signed Swiss international Johann Manzambi from Freiburg and Brazilian João Gomes from Wolverhampton for a combined nearly €100 million.
