Al-Ahly Supports Its Departments with International Expertise in Medicine, Rehabilitation, and Physical Preparation
As part of developing the professional work system and enhancing various technical and medical aspects, Al-Ahly Club has completed the reinforcement of its departments by welcoming a group of specialized talents coming from diverse international experiences in football, including sports medicine, physiotherapy, sports science, and physical preparation, in line with the club's aspirations to elevate performance quality and player care.
Simón Bueno López leads the medical addition
The new names include Spanish doctor Simón Bueno López, who joins the medical staff after a career spanning several years with Spanish club Villarreal, during which he started working with youth teams before moving to the first team, where he served as assistant doctor and then first-team doctor between 2021 and 2024, before taking on the role of medical coordinator at the club since 2024.
Bueno López has a specialized scientific background, holding a medical degree from CEU Cardenal Herrera University, and is continuing his doctorate in medicine, in addition to obtaining a FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine, and participating in a number of specialized medical programs and conferences, with experience in injury diagnosis, analysis of medical examinations, use of modern diagnostic techniques, and monitoring of players' vital indicators.
Gabriels strengthens the physiotherapy department
Dutch physiotherapist Jesper Gabriels also joins the medical staff, drawing on experience gathered between the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia, where he worked with the first team of Al-Qadsiah Club, undertaking tasks of diagnosing and treating injuries, supervising rehabilitation and prevention programs, in addition to medical coverage for training and matches.
Gabriels previously worked with the first team of Dutch club Vitesse, and also served as head of the medical staff in the Future Falcons program affiliated with the Saudi Football Federation. He holds a master's degree in sports physiotherapy from the University of Bath in the UK, in addition to a FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine, and several specialized certificates in physiotherapy and physical preparation.
Luke Garcia supports the physical and sports science side
On the technical side, Portuguese sports science and physical preparation specialist Luke Garcia joins the coaching staff, after multiple experiences in the United States, Portugal, and Canada, most recently with the American club LA Galaxy as a physical performance coach for the U-23 team, where he worked on developing physical programs, monitoring training loads, analyzing performance data, and recovery programs.
Garcia has previous experience with Portuguese club Benfica in the field of physical performance and sports science, in addition to his work with Canadian club Toronto FC within the youth sector. He holds a bachelor's degree in applied sports science, and is continuing his master's studies in high-performance sports, along with obtaining specialized professional certificates in physical preparation.
Sebastian Kirchner adds his expertise to the coaching staff
The coaching staff is also strengthened by the experience of Austrian fitness coach Sebastian Kirchner, who has a distinguished record in physical preparation and sports science, through his experience with Red Bull Salzburg, where he worked as a fitness coach for the first team since 2019, contributing to preparing physical programs, analyzing performance data, monitoring training loads, and injury prevention programs.
Kirchner previously worked with FC Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg Academy, and the Olympic Training Center in Salzburg. He holds a master's degree in sports and exercise science from the University of Innsbruck, in addition to a UEFA Fitness A license, and speaks German and English, with knowledge of Portuguese.
The joining of these names comes within the club's approach to building an integrated system that combines international expertise and scientific specialization, aimed at supporting players and improving performance on and off the field.
