Al-Taif: A Journey Between Highlands, Resorts, and Wildlife
The tourism experience in Al-Taif Governorate is no longer limited to visiting the highlands and enjoying the moderate climate, but has developed to offer an integrated system combining rural, environmental, and entertainment tourism, reflecting the diversity of natural and cultural features that distinguish the governorate, giving visitors multiple options in one destination. In recent years, Al-Taif has witnessed growth in resorts and rural inns that have invested in the mountainous environment and surrounding farms to provide an integrated tourism experience, combining accommodation in nature, agricultural activities, cultural and artistic events, fruit-picking tours, along with family programs that strengthen the visitor’s connection to local heritage, in an environment where rural architecture harmonizes with the natural landscape. In addition, ecotourism has emerged as one of the promising tourism patterns in the governorate, through destinations that allow visitors to explore wildlife, watch deer and local and migratory birds, go on safari experiences, and hike mountain trails, contributing to an experience that combines entertainment and environmental education, and enhances the preservation and sustainability of natural resources. Rural tourism specialist Bassam Ahmed explained, in his interview with SPA, that the diversity of the tourism experience is one of the most prominent attractions in Al-Taif, as visitors can in one day move between mountain highlands, resorts and rural inns, farms, wildlife sites, heritage markets, and entertainment facilities, which gives the governorate a competitive advantage among tourist destinations in Saudi Arabia. Bassam added that this integration has contributed to enhancing rural and ecotourism, extending the length of visitors’ stays, stimulating investment in resorts and tourist farms, and supporting economic activity.
