Argentinian player Thiago Almada is close to leaving his club Atlético Madrid during the current summer transfer window.

According to 'AS' newspaper, Brazilian club Flamengo has entered advanced negotiations to sign Almada, while Atlético Madrid expects to receive 27 million euros from the deal.

Flamengo has reached an agreement with the player on personal terms, after receiving the green light from Atlético Madrid to negotiate with his representatives.

The Madrid club had signed Almada a year ago, after a remarkable season he had with Lyon, paying 20 million euros for 50% of his rights.

However, the player did not meet expectations in his first season with Atlético Madrid, so the club began looking for a way out for him even before the World Cup, to avoid a further drop in his market value.

In this context, Matías Alemany set his exit price at the same value the club paid to sign him. However, Flamengo, which has a strong relationship with Atlético Madrid, is determined to raise its offer.

Sources confirm to AS that the deal may be finalized for a total amount close to 27 million euros ($30 million). So far, only the payment mechanism remains to be agreed upon, which is not expected to be an obstacle to completing the deal.

Flamengo wants to return to competing for all titles, and is ready to spend large sums again this summer.

After the historic return of Lucas Paquetá at the beginning of the year, now it is Thiago Almada's turn, who will sign a long-term contract for four seasons until 2030.

According to journalist Raísa Simplício, the player's representatives will travel to Rio de Janeiro at the end of this week to finalize the deal and fulfill the last wishes of coach Leonardo Jardim.
