Argentine star Zabaleta affirms his country's ability to win the title

Zurich, November 19 (QNA) - Former Argentine star Pablo Zabaleta expressed his hope that his country's national team will achieve great results in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, affirming that Argentina is capable of reaching the final and winning the title that has eluded them since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

Zabaleta, a star for clubs such as San Lorenzo, Espanyol, Manchester City and West Ham, spoke to FIFA's official website on the eve of the World Cup in Qatar about his only World Cup participation, when Argentina lost the 2014 title in Brazil in the final against Germany with Mario Götze's goal minutes before the end of extra time, considering that he and his teammates had a wonderful experience despite the bitter defeat.

He continued: 'We reached the final that year, but we lost to Germany. Despite that defeat, I remember it as one of the best wonderful experiences I've had, as not many players have the honor of reaching a World Cup final.'

The former Argentine right-back, who won various titles with Manchester City, concluded his interview with FIFA by saying: 'As an Argentine, I expect many great things from our team in Qatar. The team is in a good era and is performing excellently. I hope Argentina does well, and I look forward to the team reaching the final, and why not win the World Cup.'
