Arsenal renews interest in signing Julian Alvarez.. Atletico Madrid sets Gyökeres as condition to open negotiations
English club Arsenal has renewed its interest in signing Argentine international Julian Alvarez, Atletico Madrid's striker, during the current summer transfer window, amid strong competition for the player after his remarkable performances for his country in the 2026 World Cup.

Alvarez continued his impressive displays by scoring a magnificent goal in Argentina's victory over Switzerland in the World Cup quarter-finals, netting the second goal in the second extra-time period to lead the 'Albiceleste' to the semi-finals. The Argentine striker is one of Barcelona's top targets to bolster their attack, especially after Polish striker Robert Lewandowski left the Catalan side at the end of last season, and he also attracts interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.
Despite that, Atletico Madrid insists on keeping Alvarez and has informed interested clubs that the player is not for sale during the current transfer window.
According to the British newspaper The Independent, Arsenal has reopened the file for signing Alvarez, taking advantage of Atletico Madrid's refusal to enter into negotiations with Barcelona or Real Madrid regarding the sale of the Argentine striker.
The newspaper added that Alvarez prefers to stay in La Liga and is not currently enthusiastic about returning to the English Premier League, but he does not close the door on that possibility given the uncertainty surrounding his future.
It indicated that Arsenal's management does not want to pay up to £100 million to complete the deal and seeks to reach an agreement on suitable financial terms.
The newspaper concluded its report by confirming that Atletico Madrid has set a key condition to start negotiations with Arsenal: including Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres in the deal, which could open the door for serious talks between the two clubs in the coming period.
