Matthäus highlights similarities between Klopp and Beckenbauer
Lothar Matthäus, the German international record holder for most international appearances, said that Jürgen Klopp has the charisma of German football legend Franz Beckenbauer, which could help him as national team coach.
Matthäus, who was captain of the national team in 1990, spoke about the similarities between them in an article published on Wednesday in the German newspaper Bild.
Matthäus wrote: 'What unites Beckenbauer and Klopp above all is their charisma and global appeal.'

He added: 'Charisma, authenticity, reliability, and a clear vision, both personally and in the world of football, that is what Franz Beckenbauer represented. And that is what Jürgen Klopp represents as well.'
Beckenbauer won the World Cup as a player in 1974, then won it again in 1990 after six years as coach, and was already a symbol when he took over the team in 1984, and cemented his status by winning the 1990 title.
Klopp, who will succeed Julian Nagelsmann, does not have the same playing history as Beckenbauer, but he has won titles as a coach with Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, which makes him highly respected.
