By order of Wessing: Al-Ittihad backs out of signing former Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal player
Al-Ittihad club has backed out of completing the deal to sign the former player of traditional rivals Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal, based on a decision from their German coach Jens Wessing.
Saudi Al-Riyadiya newspaper said that Khaled Al-Ghannam, Al-Ettifaq winger, will arrive at the team's camp in Alicante, Spain, tomorrow, Sunday, after the negotiations for his transfer to Al-Ittihad stalled.
The two clubs Al-Ittihad and Al-Ettifaq had reached advanced stages of negotiations to finalize the transfer of Khaled Al-Ghannam, before it suddenly stopped.
The Saudi newspaper explained that the reason for this halt is the German coach Jens Wessing, as he did not give his official approval to the Al-Ittihad management to complete the deal.
Additionally, Al-Ettifaq club insisted on receiving $10 million to agree to the transfer of their Saudi winger to Al-Ittihad, which has delayed the completion of the deal officially until now.
The next few hours are expected to see a final resolution, whether by resuming negotiations or closing the transfer process entirely.
The 25-year-old had attracted the attention of several clubs after the impressive performances he delivered last season, as he was the Saudi player who scored the most goals in the Roshn Saudi League, with 13 goals.
Al-Ghannam previously played for several Saudi clubs, starting with Al-Qadsiah where he played for one season with the first team, Al-Nassr where he represented them for three years, Al-Fateh, Al-Ettifaq, in addition to Al-Hilal where he played on loan in the season before last.
