British media reported on Saturday that Chelsea reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign English midfielder Morgan Rogers on a six-year contract for 117 million pounds ($157 million), a record deal for the London club.

Reports added that Rogers, capable of playing on the wing and as an attacking midfielder, will undergo medical tests at Chelsea on Monday, bringing an end to a two-year spell with Aston Villa that concluded with winning the Europa League title.

According to reports, the value of the deal will exceed Chelsea's previous transfer record of 115 million pounds paid for Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo in 2023.

They also indicated that the London club beat Arsenal in the race to sign the 23-year-old.

Rogers joined Aston Villa in 2024 from Middlesbrough and made his senior debut for England in November of the same year.

He also assisted Anthony Gordon's goal in England's 2-1 loss to Argentina in the World Cup semifinal on Wednesday.

In January 2025, Rogers scored three goals in Aston Villa's 4-2 win over Celtic in the UEFA Champions League, and played a prominent role in the team reaching the quarter-finals.

The player continued his brilliance during the 2025-2026 season, which is considered the best of his career so far, after scoring 10 goals in the Premier League.

In the Europa League final against Freiburg, Rogers assisted the first goal and scored the third in a 3-0 win, contributing to Aston Villa's first major European title since 1982.

Chelsea, who finished last season in tenth place, will begin their Premier League campaign against Fulham on August 24.
