Despite Saudi Interest, Ajax Makes Bold Move to Snatch Onahi from Spain
Ajax enters negotiations to sign Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Onahi from Girona, aiming to negotiate a lower fee amid Saudi interest.
European offers continue to chase Moroccan star Azzedine Onahi, Girona midfielder, after his outstanding appearance with the 'Atlas Lions' in the 2026 World Cup finals.
Onahi is considered one of the most prominent names that caught attention in the 2022 World Cup, after playing an important role in the historic journey of the Moroccan national team, which reached the quarter-finals before exiting against France with a score of 2-0.
According to what the reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said via his official account on the 'X' platform, Ajax of the Netherlands entered into serious negotiations to sign Azzedine Onahi.
He confirmed that conversations are currently ongoing between all parties, whether at the player or club level, with a release clause in Onahi's contract with Girona amounting to 25 million euros.
Romano pointed out that Ajax is trying to negotiate with Girona to reduce the value of the deal and not pay the full release clause, especially since coach Michel expressed his desire to keep the player or at least achieve the best possible financial benefit from his departure.

Onahi's name was not far from Saudi Roshn League clubs during the past months, as the player was linked to a move to more than one Saudi club amid interest from several clubs to sign him, benefiting from his international brilliance and great skills in midfield.
But so far, the European destination seems the closest, with Ajax entering strongly into the race to sign him and its desire to finalize the deal during the current transfer window.
