Fans who spent huge sums to secure tickets for the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina on Sunday evening are facing queues of over two hours to enter MetLife Stadium in the United States.

The cheapest ticket available on FIFA's official resale platform on the eve of the match is nearly £6,000.

But according to the English newspaper The Sun, there is chaos outside the 82,500-capacity venue on the outskirts of New York.

It added that recent technical glitches at the turnstiles have caused some tickets to fail scanning.

This has led to massive queues, with security personnel struggling to manage the huge crowds pushing to reach their seats for the World Cup final.

Reporters from the English newspaper, who are covering the match, also waited two hours to enter the stadium, highlighting the scale of the disarray.

Media members are facing additional security checks by the Secret Service due to carrying laptops and camera equipment.

Legendary actor Tom Cruise was seen entering the venue ahead of his expected appearance at the tournament's closing ceremony.

Brazilian World Cup winner Ronaldo and former England captain John Terry were also seen heading to the hospitality suites.
