Dutchman Frenkie de Jong (29), Barcelona midfielder, is undergoing additional medical tests this Friday to accurately determine the severity of the injury he sustained during his participation in the 2026 World Cup.

The Dutch player visited the Ciutat Esportiva last Monday, the day medical tests were conducted, for an initial evaluation by the club's doctors, who already detected problems in his right knee.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, initial estimates suggest that the player could be sidelined for several months, potentially missing the start of the new season with Barcelona.

The newspaper reported that Barcelona discovered De Jong played part of the World Cup under the influence of painkilling injections, a matter also highlighted by Dutch media.

If Barcelona confirms the worst-case scenario for De Jong's injury, the intention is to clarify the nature and extent of the injury through an official statement, provided that the player himself gives permission first.

De Jong had suffered two muscle injuries over the past season, with the second causing him to be sidelined for nearly two months.
