A painful blow: strong injury sidelines Mitrovic for 3 months
The technical staff of Qatari club Al Rayyan received a powerful blow today, Thursday, at the start of their preparations for the new season, after announcing the injury of their Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The club issued an official statement saying: "Our player Aleksandar Mitrovic suffered an injury to the lateral ligament of his left leg, following a strong collision during team training."
Al Rayyan explained that medical examinations have confirmed the Serbian striker needs to be away from the field for a period of two to three months, as he is currently undergoing a comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation program under the supervision of the technical and medical staffs to ensure his full recovery and quick return.
The 31-year-old Mitrovic joined Al Rayyan in September 2025 from Saudi club Al Hilal, playing 14 matches with the team, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists.
The Serbian striker is considered one of the most prominent signings in Qatari football history, following his illustrious career with Al Hilal where he scored 68 goals and provided 15 assists in 79 matches, and before that his distinguished stint with English Fulham where he scored 111 goals in 206 matches.
It is worth mentioning that Al Rayyan, under the leadership of its new coach Luca Cattani, is currently undergoing its preparatory camp in Spain, which saw a friendly 3-3 draw against English Rochdale.
